Furnace Certification

Furnace Certification
with METL

Heat treating requires expert control to produce exceptional quality. We can help you qualify the consistency in your furnaces and find areas for you procedures to improve through a wide variety of testing. Need monthly certification? We can help. you provide the furnace bars, we can provide everything else.

Intergranular Corrosion Susceptibility

We can cross-section and examine furnace bars for intergranular attack, giving you the saitsfaction of knowing your heat treat environment is under control.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, MDP1-2

Eutectic Melting

Solid state diffusion can lead to the formation of a low-melting point alloy within your matrix. This is called eutectic melting and we will help you determine if it is affecting your process.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, BAC 5602, MDP1-2

End Grain Pitting

We can cross-section and examine samples for end grain pitting to better understand the corrosion susceptibility of the material.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, MDP1-2

Heat Treat Induced Porosity

Also referred to as high temperature oxidation, hydrogen porosity or blistering. Hydrogen can enter aluminum alloys during solution heat treat and cause porosity along grain boundaries near the surface.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, BAC 5602, MDP1-2

Alclad Diffusion

During solution heat treating of alclad alloys, alloying elements can diffuse into the alclad layer and negatively impact the corrosion resistance at the surface. We can measure the extent of the diffusion and ensure it meets your requirements.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, MDP1-2

Mechanical Testing

It is important to test the temperature distribution within a heat treating furnace. Furnace bar samples can be mechanically tested for ultimate tensile and yield strength, elongation, or hardness to guarantee consistency.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-8066, BAC 5602, MDP1-2, ASTM E8, ASTM E18, ASTM B557

Electrical Conductivity

Eddy-current measurement is much like mechanical testing in that it can be used to qualify the consistency of a furnace. Conductivity is a property that can be drastically impacted by the condition of the aluminum alloy.

Applicable Specifications

AMS 2772, AMS-H-6088, MIL-H-6088, BAC 5602, MDP1-2
